Is Lil Wayne Really Gone this Time?

This article comes from RollingOut.com

After two odd delays, Lil Wayne was finally processed into Rikers Island in New York to begin a one-year prison sentence. The multiplatnum-selling artist pleaded guilty to gun possession in October 2009 in exchange for a 12-month prison sentence that could be reduced with good behavior.

Initially scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 9, Lil Wayne was allowed to reschedule his sentencing to undergo eight root canals. He received several more days of freedom after a fire shut down the courthouse on March 2. Before turning himself in on Monday, March 8, Lil Wayne recorded dozens of songs, filmed 20 videos, joined Twitter, joked around on Ustream and threw two going away parties.

Hundreds of fans showed up at the Manhattan courthouse where Lil Wayne was sentenced to bid him farewell. One die-hard fan showed off an eye-catching tatttoo of Lil Wayne's image that covered the right side of her abdomen. –a.r.

Not So Fast Weight 'Experts!' Gaby Gets Last Laugh!

This article comes from RollingOut.com

"Experts" have been saying that Gabourey Sidibe's chances of landing a role in Hollywood after Precious were "slim" to none. Well, she's made the naysayers eat their words. The effervescent Brooklyn, N.Y., native has landed not one, but two new roles.

The 26-year-old Academy Award nominee now has a recurring role in "The Big C," a dark comedy series on Showtime and a supporting role in the independent flick Yelling to the Sky.

Sidibey guest starred in the pilot of "The Big C," which stars Laura Linney as Cathy, a suburban mom and teacher who’s been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and will play a quick-witted student in Cathy’s class. Production is set to begin in May for a summer debut.

Yelling to the Sky, a story about a disenfranchised family and a neighborhood with its own laws coming together, will be directed by Victoria Mahoney and will star Zoe Kravitz, Jason Clarke, Antonique Smith, Yolanda Ross and Shareeka Epps.

Way to go, Gabby! –gerald radford and terry shropshire

Jay Z Brings the NBA to Brooklyn, N.Y., at Nets Groundbreaking Ceremony

This article has come entirely from RollingOut.com

Jay-Z sat the mic down to pick up a shovel at the groundbreaking ceremony for the New Jersey Nets future home in Brooklyn, N.Y. On March 11, Jay-Z was joined by his wife, Beyoncé, several New York politicians, Al Sharpton and Nets executives to officially announce plans to begin construction on the Barclay Center.

During a press conference, Jay-Z spoke about the significance of bringing an NBA franchise to his hometown. "I think about growing up in Brooklyn in the Marcy projects and shooting jump shots, thinking I can make it to the NBA," he said. "Now I stand here as an owner of a team that's coming back to Brooklyn."

As a co-owner of an NBA franchise, Jay-Z continues to use his powerful pen and business savvy to take hip-hop to a level where few would have ever imagined. –a.r.

Day 2 - Back to Volunteering: DRESS FOR SUCCESS

Today was my first day back to volunteer-work in probably over a year. While I didn't have any particular work to do when I got there, I did create my volunteer schedule for the following week.

The organization I am volunteering with goes by the name of Dress for Success. More information can be found at www.DressforSuccess.org but, here's a snapshot of what Dress for Success does for the communities that they reside in and support, well their Mission Statement says it best:

"The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life."

Why I volunteer? Is it hard work? What do I get from it?

I volunteer for a few reasons. I originally volunteer because I genuinely enjoy helping people. Another reason I volunteer, I'm required to maintain a certain amount of volunteer hours, it was one of the requirements for maintaining my scholarship for school from the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation.

Volunteering can definitely be hard work. You can often leave your organization feeling like you've put in a full days shift. And indeed you should. You should leave feeling like you connected, gave, and got back.

At Dress for Success it's no walk in the park for me, on any given day I could be found accepting and sorting a clothing donation, doing data entry or administrative paper work, or
helping to organize their clothing reserve that is used to suit women for interviews and working. It's definitely a hands on job.

And at the end of the day...there's nothing like that feeling of knowing you helped to accomplish someone's goal, you made someone's day, or you made the load lighter for someone. You touched someone where the mark can never be erased - you helped - and your image will forever be etched - in their heart.

Try it, trust me, you'll see.

Your reward in volunteering is not paid in the currency of dollars but in the intangible currency of love, connection, and experience; an asset you'll use along the way.

Patience, I really don't want to wait, Go.

This post I'd like to begin with a poem from Maya Angelou.

Seek patience
and passion
in equal amounts.

Patience alone
will not build the temple.

Passion alone
will destroy its walls.

~ Maya Angelou ~

pa·tience [ páysh'nss ]

noun

Definition:

1. capacity for waiting: the ability to endure waiting, delay, or provocation without becoming annoyed or upset, or to persevere calmly when faced with difficulties

At this current moment, I hang in the balance between patience and passion.

My passion says - Go, go, and go...for there's so many places I'd like to be right now.

My patience says - Wait, wait, wait...there's some things I've got to organize for you - Relax.

On Passion - I want to leave NY on recreation for the next month or so.

On Patience - I want to wait on confirmation of key elements to help organize my future.

By experience and maturity, I've learned to wait even though I want to go.

For I could surely book my flight and GO!

For the first time ever, I am on complete break from those major activities - School and Work - which have been a major component of my life for the past twenty years.

It's hard to Be Still.

I'm having an issue chilling-out.

We're trained in activity. I'm learning that I don't know how to relax. For who would've thought it'd be a task to do almost nothing but plan, complete stepping stone steps, and play the waiting game. :/

[Most people would love the day of not having to do much. But, then again the thought of not being able to be dependent upon themselves might frighten them. The Money, the money, the money. While payment of a few major bills does at times present a slight amount of anxiety, I can honestly say I'm not scared. I'm happy that I've learned to Save, trust God and his Word and providence, and just not worry about where the money will come from. Is life not more than that?]

The mere planning and envisioning of my future and small accomplishments that I experience daily excites me beyond words. I look for places to channel my adrenaline and I'm reverted to the directions of Resting, Relaxing, and Waiting. (Sigh) sometimes I'm a ball of excitement being to told to slow-down lol.

In conclusion:

The patience doesn't build the temple, for you need passion to do that.

Too much passion "unknowingly" tears down the walls of the temple.

Patience. Balance.

The Beyonce Cosmetology Center @ the Phoenix House in Brooklyn, NY

[Above photos are Obtained from BeyonceWorld.net]

My Inspiration - Beyonce Knowles - does something else inspiring: The Opening of the Beyonce Cosmetology Center in Brooklyn, NY - the Phoenix House, "a nonprofit recovery center for drug and alcohol addiction" - March 5, 2010.

The project, one that she and her mom have worked on for years, has come to fruition. This Center will provide a seven-month cosmetology training program for adult men and women.

Along with donating her salary from the "Etta James" role in "Cadillac Records" she has pledged to donate $100,000 annually to ensure the center's growth and continue to thrive.

Her reason for funding a beauty school “I felt like they needed something that was geared towards women — something that would teach them skills that would give them hope even after the Phoenix House” - Excellent.

Giving back is priceless.

I forgot, so...

Oh yea, I forgot how much I enjoyed typing blog like posts, I remember having a blog like function on my MySpace page of yesterdays, lol. But since we're here again, let me introduce you to two of my biggest inspirations, I think you might already know them. Meet - Beyonce lol and Syreeta Gates.

Beyonce embodies so many facets of a strong and accomplished woman. In a lot of ways, her success has helped me to chisel out my dreams.

One of the most outstanding things about her, and if you can understand this, you've got a great piece of the pie - She took one thing - Singing, became great, and then effectively capitalized on additional opportunities when presented, all due her because of her stardom in artistry.

Beyonce along with many of my friends who have found their "one thing" have helped me to define my vision - for example, I will now name one individual that I know personally - when I think of Syreeta Gates, I simultaneously think "Public Service" and "SWT - Service We Trust" and concurrently "www.theswtlife.com."

Thanks goes out to Syreeta Gates of whom I've know for all but 5 years. I've watched her develop into this phenomenal iconic individual and she is not only responsible for my inspiration but I'm sure of hundreds if not thousands of others.

Recently, on a recreational day in Brooklyn, I've come across two public service project murals that she took major responsibility in creating - prior to that day I'd only seen them in pictures, on that day I hadn't even planned to see them but had come across them on my journey. Greatness begins there...

Remember greatness can start with one specialty - Michael Jordan: Basketball, Syreeta Gates: Public Service, Michael Jackson: Music, Emeril Lagasse: Cooking, Suze Orman: Financial Advice

What's your one thing? Don't know? Take some time. Figure it out. You'll be glad you did. True success starts there.

Oh, My One thing...Writing & Business.

Day 1 - Welcome to my Blog

Welcome to my blog - this was a complete and utterly spontaneous decision to create it at this moment but, I have successfully done so in a relatively short amount of time. I must say I didn't think it would be this simple.

I have created this blog to document my journey between the me now and the me I envision in my mind and feel in my heart. You all are welcome to join me on this path of transformation - Let's see what change we can accomplish between now and a year from today's date - Saturday, March 06, 2010.

I've got what many people would consider "Big Dreams" - which I think are all possible.

As we grow together I'll reveal more of what defines those Big Dreams.

There isn't much that's impossible with the application of consistency, work, and determination.

Welcome to your life, Welcome to the beginning, a journey that begins now.
